BCM location

Post by GTObert »

My new BCM from Chris White was shipped today! This is pretty exciting, but it occurs to me that I don't know where the BCM is. Can anyone help me out?

It is behind the radio/HVAC/IQ head unit on the drivers side, if I remember the diagram in the service manuals. Unfortunately, I am 200 miles away from them!

Under the steering column. Lay on your back in front of driver's seat and look up. You will have to remove two screws for the HVAC duct, disconnect the 6(?) connectors and wiggle it out. Takes about 10 minutes if you're careful.

I'll be pulling mine tonight. I removed the 2 screws but the HVAC duct didn't come off, just loose. Is that enough? Is the BCM snapped in?

That duct snaps in up high. Get your hand up there and you can pop it out. The BCM does just snap into place.

Dave,
i just pulled my BCM. The BCM hangs on a vertical metal panel. I would recommend unplugging the connectors first. There are two black plastic clips on the bottom edge. One goes through the metal panel and required a hook tool to reach up beside the steering column to release. Lightly pull down on the center of the to release clip. I applied a little pressure between the BCM and metal panel with a screwdriver to let the BCM release when the clip was depressed. And one is on the bottom edge of the metal panel towards the firewall. The top of thr BCM has lip that hangs over the top of metal panel. I lifted up to clear the metal panel and then carefully rotated the BCM 90* down and out of its space.

Good Luck,

Maurice

I didn't get a reply soon enough and toughed through it. There was a metal plate, to which a plastic tray was attached, to which the BCM sits, secured with plastic fingers on the side and top. I "wiggled" the BCD out of the plastic fingers and twisted things around until I could wedge the thing out. I tried to remove the connector from the throttle petal because that would have helped but couldn't get it off. Tried the HVAC duct and it wouldn't come out. With the BCM out I'll try and get the duct out for the re-install.

I'm just happy that the BCM and radio are ready to send off to Chris tomorrow. Then I'll come home from Mexico ready to put them back in.
