hopefully CP can still supply this part--technically it's a part that is invalidated by the ignition key recall (same as G8 flip key) which is to say IF a G8 owner complies with the recall, the flip key goes away.

The thing that's unknown is whether the non-US versions of VE/WM were made subject to a global directive on the "problem".

Good luck!

Will a 2014 work? Can the "key" part be recut? Assuming the fob can be reprogramed I have half a dozen that came with my car.

No, the 2011-2013 PPV is on the WM platform (same key cylinder as VE platform for Commodore/G8), where 2014 PPV (WN platform) uses the same key & lock cylinder as on Camaro and other current production GM vehicles using a key to start the vehicle. The newer keys are slimmer, and won't work in the older PPV lock cylinders.

To complicate things further, the key recall (in US) has taken away the flip key for G8 entirely--PPV owners like myself, who purchased a G8 flip key, can't even get a replacement now, if something happens to either one I have currently. I still have the original fixed keys, and they have been modified per the recall (blade is turned 90 degrees).

Although Bill is correct the key blade shaft is different from 11-13 to 14 the real question is it diffrent enough to where you could not swap the correct style into a 14 FOB. Since the Bases are universal as to the pin that holds them in place if they still folded correctly into the nesting slot ont he 1 it may work. Then you would just have to figure out if the 14 transmitter for door lock operations was working on the same frequency from 11-13. And also if the Security transponder was the same and could be read by the car.

There should be a good supply of used G8 transponders availible on the aftermarket for years to come and replacement key blade blanks are always available from locksmiths. So not sure all the effort to go to a 14 style would be worth it.

but a nice little project for someone to take on regardless! LOL

We might even find remotes from other vehicle might be a good option with a switch of the key blade.

Below is just an example of the different style of key blades. not even sure these are for GM just an illustration.

given options, I would opt to figure out a way to go keyless (pushbutton start)....

I'm fairly confident that the thinner key cannot be made to work in the pre-14 PPV lock cylinder, no matter other issues--electronic "chip" frequency, etc.

Even IF the key lock cylinder in the steering column could be swapped and made to work, there's still the door & trunk key lock cylinders, so you end up changing more than the column cylinder, or you end up with multiple keys.
