What to expect and what to do when you get stuff back..

Post by yargnits »

I just received my BCM and radio back from Whites. I'm left with a couple questions due to what I'm guessing are communication issues between Chris and myself. I'm posting here so others may know what to expect and (hopefully) have good instructions on what to do after re-install of both the BCM and silver box.

I know I need to go to the dealer and have them plug in a tech2 and relearn the brake petal position and SDM key. When I called my local Chevy dealer for an appointment to do this and activate the remote start they acted like they had no idea what I was talking about and they want to "diagnose" what is wrong with my car and schedule me 4 days out. So I would appreciate anyone passing on what they told their dealers to get the BCM squared away (beyond what is on Whites webpage or this site).

I didn't realize there would be a light show on my dash after everything was back in. The DIC alternates between messages: airbag fault, abs fault and stablilitrak fault. The keys and fobs still work fine. Lastly, the DLRs are still on: is this due to all the other stuff being disabled, and when that gets fixed the lights will be off?

Soft update: I've been reading the forums and see that actually a TIS2WEB is needed for the remote start enable.

I just returned from the dealer where they did the brake petal relearn and all the fault lights are gone. That's the good.

The bad is they looked RCDLR section and found no +BTV option. This combined with my DLRs not being shut off leads me to believe that the BCM program didn't take, other than causing the above mentioned faults.

I emailed this to Chris via his website, but since I haven't received an email response from him since before my unit was sent in and I can't PM him, I'm posting this here for him to read.

You've got mail ;) On most 9C3's the RCDLR (RFA) is already setup for Remote Start there is nothing to change on a Tech 2 anyhow, if needbe it would need programming with TIS2WEB.

White went above and beyond when helping me. I'm sure he will do the same for you. Granted the business hours are weekends only they normally respond within 24hrs but normally a ton less time. If anything is wrong mechanically and not electronically not 100 percent sure what White could do.

Yes, it's getting worked out. I'm going to go by the dealership on the way home and ask if they used the TIS2WEB when looking for the BTV option. I wasn't in the garage when they were doing this so I'm guessing they thought it could be done through the Tech2, like I did. I'll see if they'll do it for free since I did mention the TIS2WEB in the instructions I gave them. And Chris has agreed to take care of the DRL issue.

I had called the dealership and told them they needed to use the TIS2WEB programmer and the counter person didn't know what that was. They said they would ask the tech guy there and get back to me. They called me back and told me that the TIS2WEB is a way for my car to talk to the internet and that my car would need to be plugged in for an hour to get the BTV (remote start) turned on IF it was there. I told them that wasn't the case and said I'd be working with someone else more familiar with the process to get it done.

I told the counter person that I understand that this is something new and they haven't experienced a customer wanting this before. The counter person is only the intermediary between the guys in the shop and myself and to their credit, they asked to be filled in on how long it takes when I finally get it done. Why they want to know, I'll leave up to speculation.

You need to find a new dealer because these people are clearly morons. TIS2WEB is used to program every single module in the car, they use it all the time to update cars for field actions, recalls etc. Like DAILY, also this would take all of literally 10 minutes or less, I already verified you have the option on your VIN.

I think the technician was trying to justify an hour of service. SOS from a dealer. :(

Tell them you know it takes 10 minutes max, they can charge you accordingly or hell just ship me the RCDLR I'll do it for free.
