high side A/C charging port P/N?

Post by CrashTestDummy »

A while back, in another thread, I noted an issue I was having with a slow leak in the A/C system on our PPV. Someone here noted that the high side charging port is prone to leaking. I finally got time with a nice, bright UV light and discovered that that IS, at least a problem on our '12 PPV. The other person offered up the P/N for that port, which I didn't get around to ordering, and now I can't find the post.

So, I'll post it here in the HVAC section. Does anyone know the P/N for the high pressure side charging port? I can look it up, but in the other post, it seemed like the poster just about knew the P/N by heart. Thanks.

Is it leaking inside the fitting or outside around it? You can just replace the schrader valve inside the port. That is usually the problem. GM would not have that part since it is so common and universal. Shops buy them by the 100's

That's it! I knew it was in some odd thread, but just couldn't find it, and a search wasn't having success. Thank you.

And for documentation completeness:

" The Delco part # is 15-5439 and the GM # is 52458184."

FYI, make sure that you verify the type of socket required to remove and install the high side/low side valves. On older GM vehicles they are 8 sided versus the standard 6 sided socket.

FYI,
The ports are only six sided. I looked on mine.

The charging port has arrived. It's definitely 8-sided. It looks to be about 9/16", but I'm not sure since I don't have an open end 9/16" wrench at the house to see. 15 mm is too small and 16 mm is too big. We'll see Haven't looked at the size, or number of sides on the line side of the connection yet.

9/16=14MM

i think you want to try a 5/8's wrench , "13mm, Little over 1/2 Inch, 0.51181 Inches. 14mm, 9/16 Inch, 0.55118 Inches. 15mm, Just short of 5/8 Inch, 0.59055 Inches. 16mm, 5/8 Inch, 0.62992 Inches." found that on line

The only socket that will fit the fitting correctly is a 8 point socket that is designed to fit it. The fittings are not that tight and have been using a pair of Vise Grips that has a smooth jaw on the tip to remove and install them for the last 20 years. Just don't put much of a squeeze on it when installing the new one. I should buy a socket, but I am starting to slow down a little on car repairs for other people.
