Max picture sizes

Hi everyone!
A year or more back we had discussed picture sizes that were acceptable for forum use here on the system. The topic has come up again recently with some users routinely posting very large pictures in messages. Large pictures are fine for showing small, intricate detail, but generally they are a pain to view day by day. And they take a decent amount of storage per picture. Compounding this is a lot of people don't know how to resize pictures, they just go with their default cam settings - which are usually rather large.
From this point forward, I am requesting users voluntarily limit their picture sizes in posts to a maximum of 1280 x 1024, unless there is a need to show larger size to relay small details or in a one-off case of a special need for a larger pic. Either 800 x 600 or 1024 x 768 (or smaller) is what I'd recommend using for routine pics being posted.
This is the free image resizer that I use for Windows, I don't have Apple equipment so you're on your own there. No interest in pushing software here, just conveying what works well for me. You can use any software you want as long as you end up with decent resolution at our max recommended size....

I had opened up the sizing because people said they wanted larger, higher res pictures. All fine and good, I'll do anything I possibly can to accommodate user requests. However, as the system grows and as more people post, we're accumulating a lot of larger pictures. If you have a small monitor, it's a pain to fiddle with slider bars, etc etc.... in order to view these. I do have the capability to place a hard limit on picture sizes via system configuration settings, however I'd rather not do this.
I'm going to sticky this topic so it stays at or near the top of the page for easy reference. Thanks for helping us with the viewability of pic posts going forward!
