Decontenting the '17?

Post by SBRMD »

Seems like little is known about '17's.

From reading the ordering guide, it seems to me that on '17's:

1. You can't get a side curtain airbag that is for both front and rear occupants.
2. You can't get a rear cloth seat
3. You can't get a compass.

Do I have this right? It would seem all these things are on the '16 and prior. But not the '17? Why?

What does everybody think?

And on a related note: I seem to remember that there was at one time a sort-of staging area in California when Caprice PPV's were "banked" and awaited orders from end users. Granted, the production numbers right now are miniscule, but is this "bank" still in existence? And does anybody know what all is there?

They get shipped to the port docs in Benicia, CA and from there go to Kerr Industries up the street to be unfitted with the factory police gear. They also have turn key installs as well that dealers can order from Kerr.

Spoke to a guy at Kerr this morning. He said that "turn-key " cars are not banked anymore.

Also, I went onto KERRs website today, looking up some wiring diagrams, and found the options list for the 2017 Caprice is very very short. I think it just had the distribution harnesses, consoles, and K9/Cages. I remember that list being a couple few pages long.

I have never seen a compass on any 14, 15 or 16 Caprice. Must have been an option.

After 2013, they deleted the compass all together. AFAIK, there isn't an option for the 2014+.

You guys are right about the compass; checked the order guides, it disappeared in '14. I was fooled by some other materials which listed one in '16. In any event, compasses are minor and rear seats can be changed; more interested in whether the full side curtain airbag option has actually been deleted. There was no discussion of it, but the option doesn't appear on the order guide. Why the heck would they do that at the end of the run of a very limited production car?

Do individual tire pressures read out from each tpms sensor on a 2014-17 dash like on 2011-13, or is it just an idiot light when there's a low tire?
