2012 PPV race car for educational purposes.

Post by 3rd Coast BTH »

Greetings folks,
I'm turning my 2012 PPV into a track car. I've been following some of your posts for about a year now, and this is my first post. This is an educational program where cops and firemen, active or retired race kids or adults on the track to stop the dangers of street racing. This nationwide program is called "Beat The Heat".

I'll be taking this car to schools and other public appearances to educate the dangers of texting or drinking while driving. My team, "3rd Coast Beat The Heat Race Team" is located in Galveston County Texas, and sponsored by the Sheriff's Office.

I took a totaled out, patrol car, repaired it, painted it, and am now outfitting it as a track car. All of this has been done at my expense, at no cost to the tax payer. I'll be posting some pictures soon and asking for advice.

Has anyone put any racing slicks on a Caprice yet? I'm wanting the widest tire I can fit in there. I found a set of closeout wheels at Tirerack.com for a BMW for $120 each. They're going on today.

Engine mods are next!

Welcome! I guess you'll be running at RPR (Houston Raceway Park)?

No one with slicks yet, that I know of, but plenty of DRs:

NOTE: Just pictures of the tires, no info on if, or if they did, how well they fit on the car.

I had 15" slicks on my car for a very short period of time and now 15" drag radials. Do yourself a favor and go 17" unless you want to make a lot of suspension and brake changes. It doesn't really sound like you're going to need 15s anyway. Just research what the G8 and SS sedan guys are doing as they are the same car with respect to wheel and tire fitment. You can also see what the 5th gen Camaro guys are doing, but the quarter panels and wheel wells are larger on those cars, so it's not a direct comparison. The suspension is basically identical with respect to wheel and tire fitment, though.

Just copy what people do on SSs or Camaro 5s.

I ran it down the track a few times. It ran high 12's bone stock engine with drag radials on the rear.

I just pulled the engine.

Welcome back! Very cool project. Also cool that the Sheriff's Office lets you use actual decals and lights. And the wheels, although not original, look good on this setup.

I like it! What did you have done to run 12s? Also any weight reduction? I am sitting at 4300 lbs (2200 front, 2100 rear) with full fuel and 200 lbs driver. I would love to get it down to 4k with less fuel, vehicle weight reduction, and driver fitness program!

I have to stand corrected and working from bad memory. It was 13's. I had some documentation that said it would run 12's. Now once this engine work is done, I'm shooting for 10's We shall see!
