Trunk lid hook

Post by vetterss »

On the Caprice as well as the SS cars, not sure about G8's, there is a plastic two prong hook at the base of the trunk lid when looking at it opened up. Does anyone out there know what that is for?

I believe that is used to hold the carpeted, flat, spare tire cover up and out of the way when changing the tire. There is nylon loop attached to it.

and....if the car has the cargo mat/trunk liner (RPO B42), the use for the hook is less obvious. A hole in the vinyl over the lifting lanyard would have been useful, but I suppose the idea is to contain fluid spillages, and a hole for the lanyard would have defeated that purpose.

I recently had a bungee cord hook "incident" with the RR while traveling, and it was easier to just pull everything out of the trunk than to try to use the lanyard & hook while wrestling with the spare & jack. The spare cover/trunk floor carpet just lifts out--nothing holding it in place.

My guess "RR" is for right rear tire, but I have been known to guess wrong.
