I'm one of those guys thats scared to run a cleaner and dislodge any sludge that might plug up things elsewhere.
The oil does need a change, its a little dirty so I'll start there, see if anything changes, and send the PCM out for a dod delete.
This guy seems to be doing it for $50! http://lt1swap.com/afm_delete.htm Can't beat that.
I didn't know you can get that done for so cheap, I thought you had to get a $400 tune to get rid of it when you changed a cam out. I'm going to get on that this week and start gathering parts for a dod delete with a LS3 or L9H cam.

Probably a good idea. Most of the time if a lifter gives up, it usually takes a cam lobe with it, so you're probably at least looking at a couple of lifters AND a cam. You're already in the rabbit hole, might as well chase it to the rabbit. :D

Thats real cheap. I’ve seen people say they’re running an ls3 cam on a stock tune without issue (minus deleting afm)

If I get cold feet on the ls3, the L9H is still a 403hp/417ft/lbs engine, 6.2 truck engine, so it wouldn't be a downgrade in the L77, probably still get a decent little bump from it (haven't actually checked the specs tho). But if like you said, the ls3 wasn't running lean or throwing anything off with a stock tune, I'm still leaning toward that.

Edit: looks like VVT effects the L9H a bit, so LS3 seems the way

One area of concern to consider when "dislodging" particles in the oiling system, there is a small screen filter under the oil pressure gauge. It filters the oil to the DoD system. Is there a possibility of clogging that?
I've never run Seafoam to clean an engine, but an old school way is to add 1/2 quart of transmission fluid a few miles (50-100) before an oil change. Highly detergent and not as caustic as Seafoam. Just my two cents and at my own risk.
