Key fob woes

Post by mwc »

I picked up a 2014 PPV yesterday, and got nothing out of any of the buttons on the key fob. Popped it open, no battery, cool easy fix. Put a new 2032 in and still nothing.

It looks like pairing a new fob is really easy, but I understand you need a working key in order to add another. Any idea if my broken fob will work to pair a new one? And if not, what’s my next step?

Thanks!

My car came with zero fobs, I bought one off Amazon, and successfully paired on my own using nothing but the DIC menus.

Don't know if that answers, but you don't necessarily need a single fob to pair another... at least on my 2012.

I just ordered one from Amazon, should be here tomorrow.

And sorry, but new to these cars, is the DIC the dash screen?

Thanks!

Yep I believe that's the name for the center screen between the tach/speedo. I am not 100% sure how the 2014s are configured, but I believe on the 2011-2013s the customization menu allows configuration of the fobs.

I just went through all the menus and didn’t see anything regarding a key. And looking into the manual, it says a working transmitter is required

New fob should be here in the morning, I’ll get it cut and see if I can avoid a trip to the dealer

Well, key/fob came in, went to a local lock and safe shop, got it cut. Tried pairing as per the manual, working key in and out, new key in within 10 seconds, all that. No luck. Got some anti theft message on the DIC. So lock guy got out his computer deal, and still wasn’t able to get the key to pair.

Guy at the shop was thinking it was the new key itself, as it’s not specified as working for a Caprice but it’s the same fob and says it works for a lot of similar cars

Locksmith wasn’t able to even find a replacement fob to order, pretty stumped and frustrated at this point. Just want keyless entry and remote start to work

When I got new keys as part of my recall, I believe the dealer HAD to set them up.

When I got home i separated the blade from the rest of the key, clipped in my keyless entry buttons, and paired THAT part myself. But the key itself I believe had to be done by the dealer.

In short:

Keyblade, dealer.
Fob, me.

DIC = Driver Information Center

Yes, the screen. There's an ongoing joke on the Tahoe PPV forum about putting your DIC in the dash when you first get your Tahoe. They come with all the wiring, but no DIC console. Easy fix, you just have to get a new DIC from the dealer, or grab one off a truck in a JY, and put it in your dash.

Can you please give me the info on specifically which one you ordered off Amazon? We have a '12 as well and are in need of one for sure.

Thanks

General Motors 92237316, Remote... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00M38PCBE?re ... b_ap_share

That is the one i ordered and have been using for over a year with no issue. If remote start is not present and enabled, the button on the remote simply triggers the trunk as well
