Quickjack

Post by Nate68c10 »

Anyone else have a quickjack? I just got mine today and I'm woundering if it would be okay to lift the car on the pinch welds?

I got the 6000 that is for hybrids but mainly because everything I own is long but its almost to long for the caprice. They have a $100 discount on most of them right now if you call them. I would habe got the 7000 but it was out of stock till October and I have a bunch of maintenance to do and I didn't want to wait till it was cold.

These cars have specific lift points identified--I'm always concerned when I see this (my) car being lifted at some shops using this style of lift setup. Granted, the load area is very well spread with this type of lift, but it often - and perhaps unintentionally - puts a great deal of weight on the lower rocker panels, which are plastic, and are secured via plastic clips.

If I had this type of lift, I would try to set it up to work by contacting the proper lift points on the unit body structure. The OEM floor jack DOES lift a single corner across the seam/pinch welds, so if it's not possible to use the "frame" lift points, make some wood, hard plastic or metal blocks that are slotted to fit over the weld seam so it doesn't get damaged/collapsed, and tall enough (or adjustable) so that the lower rocker panel doesn't bear the load.

Maybe there are already lift blocks of this type in the aftermarket - something that is magnetic would be a bonus!

That was lifting off the factory lift points I'm more curious for the pinch welds because it would give me another few inches of room under the car. Either way lifting in my shitty asphalt driveway is asking for trouble. That was just the first night I had it going and my truck was currently broke and stuck in the garage. I will be using it in the garage from now on.

Lifting any car by the pinch welds is a terrible idea. The only reason it's a thing at all is because that's how you need to do it on the side of the road with the crappy scissor jack.

I haven't used the pinch welds, after getting the car on solid cement I'm 100% comfortable with the factory lift points. Doing the rear brakes right now and I had to use a pipe on my breaker bar to get the caliper brackets loose and the lift was rock solid. Also por15 caliper paint is the shit!
