Wow don't how missed all these replies guys! Thanks for all the help, weather is finally breaking in the north east, so I know what I'll be doing this weekend!! I found a really nice light weight lithium ion motor cycle battery. Weighs 6.2lbs and has 625 cold cranking amps. I know this is a little lower that the factory battery but realistically should work just fine! It comes in at 319.95 which might be a little rich for some people, but compared to comparable lithium ion batteries that's a steel!!!

I picked up one of these for our 86 SVO, and am considering a pair for the Caprice:

Nice! that kind of weight off the back end is huge, and honestly would most likely be noticable during some agressive driving

Yeah, and since the passenger side one is for the 'extras', I've thought about getting an even smaller one, and using it for self-jumpstarts should the need arise. Still in the considering the options stage, but really want to get all that liquid acid that's sloshing around back there out of the car. Although it is in almost the right spot on the car, it's still kind of high up AND outside the wheelbase. And adding lightness counts everywhere.

I'm a big fan of ODYSSEY batteries. I've had one in my tow truck going on 10 years now. I throw a BatteryMinder on it every few months and leave it on for a week. When I drive the truck it gets a workout. That battery has taken alot of crap and is still extremely strong. Zero corrosion issues. They are definitely worth the money.

Anyone replaced their main battery recently have anything to add to this, the AC DELCO AGM on amazon seems like the best deal to me overall, barely more than a parts store standard type. plus you will have a core battery laying around for other use or trade in.

I put an Odyssey in the passenger side slot, with mods to the mount, and moved the Delco AGM from the passenger side, to replace the liquid acid battery in the driver's side. Saved about 25 pounds, so far:

couple of updates on my end as well, baught and installed a tiny Honda battery. That lasted about a week, it would start the car every time as long as there wasnt a load on the battery while the car was off... So out that came and put a correct sized battery back. Ive had the passanger side battery out for some time now, no issues there.

Also the reason I didnt end up going with the Lithium Ion battery, is there are apparently issues with charging them, and running the risk of over charging causing them to explode. Options could be installing some sort of voltage regulator on the charge back wire? or spend the close to 1000 dollars on a litium ion battery ment for a car?
