I had my paint and body guy paint the repeater trim panels for me a while back and since I didn't have time to address the wiring, I just drove with them for month installed but not functioning.
I liked them just fine but since I was already blacking out the car, I wanted to experiment with darkening the chrome center. I decided to use the Dulicolor Shadow Chrome Blackout kit to tint the chrome a few shades.
A few swipes of the razor blade and other sharp tools separated all the parts. I noticed that the circuit board that housed the LEDs had resistors installed which was promising. I was hoping I wouldn't have to install additional resistors to correct the typical hyperflash issue when installing LEDs with normal bulbs.
Using some black silicone adhesive/sealant, the repeaters were reassembled with care.

Re: Side Repeater Mods
After some previous posts about the repeater wiring from smwalker and Crazy Paul, and hunting though pages of schematics, the most convenient place to tap into the turn signal wiring would be just at the connector going into each headlight housing. This would mean the following wires would need to be tapped:
Driver Signal: Blue/White
Driver Ground: Black
Passenger Signal: Green/Violet
Passenger Ground: Black
I disconnected the main connector going into each headlight to give me a little more room to cut the electrical tape and expose the wires to tap them. The reddish lock needs to be pulled up as the connector is pulled off.
The appropriate wires were exposed and identified, then I just tapped them to a 2-P waterproof connector. The bundle was then taped with high temp electrical tape and neatly zip tied so it wouldn't pull or move around.

Very Nice!!
I Like the 2 conductor connector you used to make the harness serviceable. Very nice.
Like the fact that we can change the color of the chrome, Revolutionary!
Hate those Red pierce the wire type connectors, given me nothing but trouble of the years, hope yours work fine.
Thanks for sharing!
Need a final pic with those black beauties installed!!

Thanks Steve. I'll definitely add to the post when I have it physically wired and installed.smwalker wrote:Very Nice!!

Yes I agree about those taps. They normally suck and I usually stay away from them. Frankly, I was lazy and had them lying around so grabbed them. Considering it is not a critical item, I'm not too concerned. We'll see how long they last.

Re: Side Repeater Mods
Boy it's hard to find time to work on my cars these days. I finally got the side repeaters re-installed and plugged in. Works great.

Looks great tinted like that! I thought about those snap taps, then decided no, but I do like the idea being able to take them off and with a little tape, good as new.
I should have all my things painted and installed next week. Getting excited after seeing yours. A little inspiration...
