Need to replace the rear trim on the trunk lid

Discussion on body issues/mods, appearance, interior/trim, and detailing (i.e. how to keep your car looking showroom new, or a reasonable facsimile thereof...).

Need to replace the rear trim on the trunk lid

Post by CrashTestDummy »

When prepping for yesterday's autocross event, we discovered that the right side of the chrome strip on the trunk lid had popped away from the sheetmetal. On further examination, it appears that the slot for the mounting stud has broken away from the trim piece, so we'll need to replace that strip. I recently treated the car to a hand wash and wax job from a local mobile detailer, who may have broken that piece, but given the car's history, can't point the finger definitely at them, so time to break out the card.

Two questions:
1. Has anyone replace that strip yet, and have any pointers? I have the FSM, so will be digging through that before starting, and,
2. I'm trying to figure out what 'Rad Grl' means on this anchor piece:

I can't come up with anything repeatable for what that means. Thoughts?

I replaced mine with an Aussie embossed one, not a hard install at all, and i had to modifymy aus one to remove a center mounting post because of the keyhole

It's simple to remove. Remove the two nuts on the ends and don't lose the rubber washers under the nuts. The rest of the trim is held with the anchors which engage the holes in the sheetmetal. I found the right metric socket size and just reached inside the trunk sheetmetal with it. If you put the open end over the tail of the anchor and push in, the socket will push the anchor "lip" in and disengage it. Don't try to pry it from the outside unless you don't care to break the plastic anchors.

I don't have a picture of the anchors but this picture shows the holes in the trunk.

What did you do with the keyhole? Just leave it under the molding strip?

But it listed on the page for the trunk lid trim. That's a little far from the radiator!!
