Drivers Knee Bag Issue

Post by GTO »

I pulled the drivers door panel off to check the speaker. The ohm reading was fine. Somewhere between the radio and the door is bypassed somewhere. I decided to put it back together without accomplishing much. The dreaded airbag logo after "Systems Check" stays on including the red icon. Code reader points problem to knee bag drivers side. Its plugged in. The extra wiring that was police installed was a spaghetti mess that I removed as much as I could. Maybe the pillar bag connection was disturbed? Any ideas? Very frustrating.

What year of Caprice do you have? There is an option code WX7 that allowed the use of the front speakers as installed service radio equipment speakers. Look to see if there is that option on your SPID in the trunk, and a harness labeled WX7 under the passenger side of the dash. Sorry, I can't help with the airbag issue.

It's a 2013. There is no wx7. I have back tracked this thing 3 times. I'm about to call the Chevy dealer. I was hoping to buy new tires instead. I will get it fixed eventually. A real head scratcher!

Have you inspected connector x267 behind the glove box? that is the speaker bypass. if they wanted to do it easily that is where they would do it.

Info on connector: http://www.newcaprice.com/forum/viewtop ... 02&#p25702

If you see a single blue connector it's factory. If you see 2 sets of connectors you got a bypass going on.

I have a 2013 that they cut the speaker wires inside of the rubber boot on the passenger door wiring. I guess it was the easiest place for them to make a splice.

You will have to do some serious looking to locate the open in the knee air bag circuit.

:D Some great news on the airbag issue. The yellow connector was not connected. Someone that worked on the car before had disconnected it for some reason. When I pulled the cover off it jarred it enough to prevent contact. A friend with fresh eyes snapped it in and that was the culprit. Problem fixed and I'm relieved.
