Polution mode ?

Post by Capeasy »

I heard somewhere on the forum if I hold down the recirculation button for more than 5 seconds it would go into a " polution " mode, and it does display this on the screen on my 2013. How is this different than just recirculating the inside cabin air ?

It only goes into Recirc under 10MPH (so traffic)

The system can be set to pollution mode which selects recirculation when the vehicle speed is less than 15 km/h. This helps to prevent exhaust fumes entering the interior in heavy, stop/start traffic. To switch pollution mode on or off, press and hold the recirculation button for four seconds. When pollution mode is activated, the display shows Pollution Mode Activated. When it is switched off, the display shows Pollution Mode Inactive.

Yep, I use it since I have no cats and my exhaust dumps under the rear. It still stinks, though. haha.

Man, I figured the recirc button does that, but I guess there's a 'recirc' and a 'really-recirc' setting, too!

Does what? Pollution mode turns recirc on and off depending on speed. It has nothing to do with recircing more.

Never have tried using the pollution mode to see how it acted. With the Texas heat and humidity, I never take mine off of recirculate. I like cold air, not cool air.

Indeed! Pretty much all our 'modern' cars go straight to recirc between about February and December. In our '02 GMC, it's the easy way to turn on and off the compressor.

Well, the car does it for you. They do not stay on recirc when set to recirc. They cycle back and forth. I believe most if not all newer cars are like this.

Tried pollution mode and... meh. All I see is a way to wear out the recirc actuator faster. Not worth the trouble.
