HVAC Duct Assembly order

I recently ordered the HVAC duct that goes from behind the console, down along the trans tunnel, to the console body for my G8 console install. Shocking absolutely nobody, it has to be special ordered.

My question lies in terms of what is the order of assembly? Can I put the shifter in and then the HVAC duct? Or does the duct go in first? The pics I have of parts diagrams aren't super conclusive. Thanks.

I have no solution, but the shocking bit is that you can still actually order that part! There are some silly, common parts that a no longer available for even recent models of the Caprice. Something for a G8? I'd be surprised if you actually get it.

No doubt. Steve w. Mentioned in a thread with someone else asking that the 2011 part was the only yr from 11-13 that WASNT discontinued. I have a 12 so I figured, how different could it really be.

I am not surprised it was special order but the insanely low cost I figured what the hell.

Just got notice that it is shipping today, hope to have early next week. I'll update thread with pics and feedback for future reference (not too future, I can't imagine a part like this sticking around too long at dealer's unfortunately).

Received the part this past Friday. Had an issue Saturday and got a little delayed, but test fit it Sunday and it fits like a glove. I'll toss up a pic when my work computer stops being a trash heap special.

As far as I can tell, doesn't seem to be anything special about the 2011 part vs 2012. To answer my own question from the OP:

You can leave the shifter in place and add this after the fact if desired

Also side note... I imagine not having my center stack controls hooked up might have an impact on this, but I didn't feel any air coming out of the new duct. I've never owned a car with rear HVAC so this is very new to me.

No doubt. Now my kids can get heat and cool air without me having to melt or freeze myself out, respectively.

the rear ducts , feed off the center dash vents , there is no separate control for them

just the lever that allows the air to come out , or not come out the vents

Got it, thanks. I forget where I left my settings when I pulled the HVAC face, I'll tinker when I get it all put back together.
