on my 2011:
1) how come I don't have a really nice shifter with the +/- manual shifting on the right side? (just has a simple rugged-looking straight up and down P,R,N,D,L.)
At first I figured only the '14-'17 had those but I think I'm wrong
2) do I have a 6L80E or a 6L90E? Dumb I know but pretty sure the seller told me they are equipped with a "CTS-V 6L90E"...
I think they're both strong and reliable, just wondering

Re: two very basic questions about my transmission
Thank you for the reply. That brings me to my next questions:
1) is the 11-13 9C3 a compatible direct bolt-in in upgrade for mine?
2) in what ways is the 6L90E better, what is the weight difference, and of course is it a compatible direct bolt-in in upgrade for my 6L80E
also...
I'm about to try to fire up the car for the first time since the resurrection. Can I add 2 quarts of Dex VI LV to a (?) fill plug on the side and then run the car with the drain plug out until the excess bleeds off???
Is that the procedure to top off/ drain & fill?
Thank you all so much we are close and hoping for the best

there are plenty of topics for the tap shift , and several people offer a box to do#802PalmBeach wrote: ↑Mon Jun 28, 2021 8:26 amThank you for the reply. That brings me to my next questions:

the 6L90E is a stronger trans , it is not a direct swap , the rear crossmember that would fit our cars is very hard to get out of australia , people have put close to 1000hp through the 6L80E , and had them last , while others are lucky to put 350hp through them , having a OK tuner or a good tuner makes alot of difference
weight difference ive never looked into
if you trans pan has the plug in the bottom , that is how you check the level when the trans is in a certain temp range , but most overfill the trans some since they can have issues with the factory level under high G's

Re: two very basic questions about my transmission
Ah ok I understand. At this moment I'm in the process of topping it off for the first (re)start and then I'll be flushing with plenty of good clean Amsoil brand Dex6. Next step after that we'll replace the filter and clean the pan and (magnet if needed), and then after I am able to save up we'll consider a Camaro style deep pan and filter.s/c'd cav wrote: ↑Mon Jun 28, 2021 1:18 pmthere are plenty of topics for the tap shift , and several people offer a box to do#802PalmBeach wrote: ↑Mon Jun 28, 2021 8:26 amThank you for the reply. Those are my current plans to try to salvage this stock 100k mile abused unit. If it can hold 400 wheel horsepower as a daily for about 5 years I will be very very happy !!
