Yeah, not achievable without WAMS, there's no option for remote start BCM programming through TIS. It's definitely a proprietary patch done by WAMS.

Easiest is TIS and VXdiag, but yes it could in theory be done by dealer too. But probably for an arm and a leg.

I did make it work also same process as above $40 ACdelco vin license and tool, I actually asked at the dealer I use if I got the WAMS part done would they be able to do it and they had zero clue said anything remote start gets farmed out and told me big $$$, So i bought the stuff myself and worked through it via laptop an frustration. I have a 11 9C1 and recently purchased an OBDSYNC tool and tokens. I didn’t realize I needed Windows 8 or higher (currently have Windows 7) so I’m having to address that. My question is regarding whether anyone has personal success in activating remote start with OBDSYNC. Also, is the wiring for the hood latch switch present on the car? I haven’t really dug into it deeply, but at a casual glance I don’t see a connector.

You'll need the hood latch with male connector or jumper it. Female connector is already on the car. Not sure about OBDSync.

Last week I picked up a used laptop with Windows 11 and downloaded ONDSYNC. (On a side note I unlocked Bluetooth backup camera and phone on the silver box. All is functioning except backup camera. I still have some fiddling to do there.) i re-flashed the BCM using OBDSYNC and picked up a used hood latch locally. The five button flip key remote I ordered arrived and I programmed it to the car. I have the remote start activated in the DIC and the new remote locks and unlocks the car. The trunk button also unlocks the trunk as intended. Unfortunately the remote start button also unlocks the trunk as well (doesn’t start the car). I’m going to try another remote from a different vendor.

White Shadow, before you get another remote, there might be a programming issue in the remote start process. When I was adding remote start to my 2011 9C3, I had the same issue. It took a couple of tries to get it right. It was weird that the remote start would open the trunk. Also, I found that I needed to press the door lock button twice before the remote button.

I succeeded at adding remote start to my '12 with OBDSynch!

The programming part went smoothly.

I forgot there's a setting in the DIC you need to switch to get it working.

I also fought the remotes getting them recognized by the car and ended up doing it with the OBDSynch instead of the DIC menu.

Don't forget your hood latch! The plug for it was already on top of my radiator, I just needed the latch with a switch and to plug it in.

Mine works with a single press of the lock button, but I need to hold the start button until it actually cranks. On my Equinox I can lift as soon as the lights flash.

Another difference between the PPV and Equinox is the HVAC blower shuts off when you put the key in run on the PPV. It worried me the first time. A buddy's '11 came with it and his does the same thing.

Just want to update this in 2024.

Remote start vehicles have two different files provided by SPS that are not on the standard car in the BCM.

If you get a vin of the same year and engine type that is remote start and download the cal files (basically do the programming but unplug the tool asap after download of files you can save these two files and rename them as the non remote start files and use these when writing with SPS and your VIN. Bam it’s now enabled in your BCM.

It’s an additional $45 and some work to snuff out a VIN but it works.

I have obtained files for 2011/2012 and tested on many cars with success.

After this is done you can do the standard immobilizer and RKE module enable and you have full remote start. Just need to get a key fob and hood latch.

Very good info and a clear explanation of the workaround CCG. Thanks very much for updating the thread, remote start on the 11-13's has been a very desired feature since the forum has been in existence. Now there's a clear path for the technically astute to follow!

Thanks again,
Eric
