Circuit Board LED modules (SMD) information

Post by smwalker »

Recently someone asked about the back light in the shifter and we speculated they might be Mounted to a circuit board. I thought it would be good to get a list together of all the SMD (Surface Mount Device) LED's in our cars. I got a few so far but if any of you know of any others please add em on. And some guys are in the process of changing over all thier interior LED's to a different color. About to see some interesting colored interiors!

There are a few common size found in cars. How you measure them seems to be in MM and is the largest measurement of the item or the pad it gets soldered to. In the example in this diagram these are called a 3528 the number stands for 3.5mm and 2.8mm and as you can see on the diagram those are the dimensions of the lamp and the solder pad.

After that you get into luminosity numbers and color temperatures. I cannot offer much guidance in those areas. For brightness and amps used I just tend to shoot towards the middle of the pack when I order. But they are so cheap it's not a bad idea to order a few of each and see what looks better at night.

Traction / Sport Button 9C3 style switch

Although the pics here are a Traction/Sport button from Australia I an sure the 9C3 Trunk / Traction button would be very similar.

This is one I purchased that worked well. It is white in color output. I have never been able to find ones that match up perfectly with the factory PPV led's that have a slight blue tint to them. White is the closest I can come to it.

YEa you gotta yank off the dial. Not sure anyone has ever done a video on breaking one of those down but we need to. That dial is a pisser.

Actually no if I rememeber right you pop off the back dial off the stem. Cant remember now!
