Info on the heat exchange pipe in the 2012+ cars

Post by smwalker »

Came across this presentation to explain the AC hose redesign that happened in 2012. The 11's did not get this treatment. They are still the best though. ;-)

This explains the super large hose the comes off the firewall then the other hose disappears into it. It comes out later!

So it might be prudent to get a spare, should the compressor fail in the future? It looks like that assembly is no longer listed for the 2012, but one can find P/N 92285455 for the 2015. Is that the correct line? The pictures don't really have a good perspective view. I would assume a 2015 line would fit our 2012, but I could be wrong. At ~$80, it might be worth the gamble.

Correct 92285455 shows as fitting 12-17 and the SS.

Old part numbers: 92457949, 92458351, 92263203, 92267968

Spare? Well when its gone ain't no corner shop going to duplicate that thing with a tube bender. Can always go back to the traditional 2 tube side by side system. Even heard on one video guys used to braze the two tubes together side by side to create the same heat transfer effect.
But yea spares are always a good idea.

Since it looks to be still available, and not terribly-expensive, I might throw one in the spares box.

Thanks!
