Coolant change

Post by Car54 »

I see a post back from 2016 on coolant change nothing newer.

I just dumped roughly 2 gallons of coolant out of my car from the the radiator drain plug, the car was warm/cool, drove it early this morning.

????Do we need to “burp” the system at all???

Or just fill it and drive it?

The coolant tank is a royal pain to get to so I just pumped what I could out of it and replaced it with the same amount.

There is a vent tube that comes from a high point on the engine to to air gap of the radiator cap. Small hose from engine to cap area. That is where excess air goes. You could if you wanted just keep the cap off while you idle through a few thermostat openings. that would get the majority of the air out. Rest will take take of it's self.

Steve,

Thank you! Cycled the car twice today, will check again in the AM, it hasn’t really needed any additional fluid so far.
