Re: Canuck Caprice
Well, the battle with the insurance bureau was lost and they absolutely refuse to add it to their database. Funny thing though is that the SS is in the database even though it was never sold in Canada. I think GM had the intention of selling them here and changed their minds. I also went to my current insurance company's office and they told me it was a software change that won't allow fudging with VINs that the old software allowed and decided not to insure these vehicles anymore.
So looks like I'll be able to get insurance of "last resort" going from $638/year to $1665/year! At least I'll be able to drive it and save a bit when I cancel liability when it's in winter storage. So much for experience and a near impeccable driving record
So next will be continuing with mods; G8 interior and exhaust. Swapped out the tranny pan to the Camaro higher capacity one and wide mouth filter earlier this week. That took care of the occasional shift flare at WOT.

Re: Canuck Caprice
Picked these up from a yard on my way to North Bay. I saw on car-part.com they had a set off a 2015 Camaro with 55k km on them so they shouldn't need a rebuild. I'll see how they clean up and determine if they need a repaint.
I had to negotiate on the price though. The original price was $175 each front and $150 each rear plus a $45 core charge for each! Got them for $600 all in. Don't forget, this is in Canadian funds so that's about $455USD.

Re: Canuck Caprice
So ripped out the interior to swap in the G8 seats, shifter, carpet and console. Still have to rip out the rubber mat. Have to do the seat backs swap for the air bags and cobble 3 shifters into 1. Also have to replace the parking brake cable.

Re: Canuck Caprice
Fast forward to today. I finished the swap, mostly. With help from info here, I was able to do most of the swap of the center console. I missed the part (pun not intended) where the shift cover plate for the 9C3 is different from the G8's (curved up vs. flat) that prevents installing the cubby. And the guy that pulled the console broke or lost some parts. Missing are the small covers above the rear cubby and vents and the cover between the bin and cup holders. The large console bin's rear retainers are broken, the right side's handle inner moulding screw retainer is broken off, the G8 shift cover plate is broken in two places as well as the retaining tabs for the shifter trim plate and the parking brake release cable was cut (see redneck fix).
So I fire an order to my dealer for the parts. The cover above the rear vents is available but not the lower one. Also available are the cup holder cover and the 9C3 shifter cover (92239147). All will be coming from the US so may take a week or eight.
Seats went well. Used the "swap the seat backs" method. Transferred the Caprice's wiring looms to the G8 seat bottoms and moved over the two grey wires for the fore and aft motor. The switch in the Caprice driver (made by Chrysler BTW ) is already capable of the fore and aft control. Just had to elongate the hole to allow it to move. Once stores open, I'll search for a black plastic cap to cover the hole left by the G8's manual lumbar knob.
And for the carpet, when I pulled it from the shed, mice had nested in it with the underlay. So I decided to pull all the underlay, pads and the left foot rest and just put the carpet on top of the rubber mat. I installed the foot rest through both the rubber and carpet. The short carpet is quite evident in the rear corners. When the u-pull yard reopens, I'll look for some other carpet I can cut out to add to it.
Things I'll need to do later: wire the TUTD to the BCM, the trunk release, traction control and sport shift buttons, replace the shifter plate and install the cubby that has the trunk release, USB and aux input, the G8 leather wheel.
These seats are much more comfortable and the arm rest and cup holders are a godsend!
More coming next week.

Great progress! The seats look very nice. And for being the "wrong" shifter plate, it seems to fit just fine!

Re: Canuck Caprice
Had the exhaust system installed, which consists Maximizer 1 7/8 headers and catted mid-pipes connected to JBA mufflers, all of which are for the Chevy SS. The muffler tips, as expected, had to be extended. Other unexpected things were the flanges for the mufflers didn't match up to the ones on the pipes so he had to chop them off and weld them. Also had to extend the mid pipes an inch or so.
One issue I'll have to deal with is a tube rubbing on the steering shaft (see pic). I'll have to dimple the tube to clear it. And then reconnect the O2 sensors as he didn't know to unclip the connectors to extend them.
Other than that, and getting raped for $1300 because he didn't know what he was doing with this thing and took 12 hours, I'm happy. He was suggesting things like welding 4 new bungs for the O2 sensors, cutting one of the header tubes to clear the steering shaft to get it in, adding flex pipes at the headers.
One reason I chose the JBA mufflers was this thing that they have that can plug one of the tips. It has some packing on it to make it a little quieter. Tried it just as a quick try while idling and it does tone it dow. a bit. They didn't include screws to hold them in nor a hole drilled in the tip for the screw. I also want to paint it black so it doesn't show as much when it's in. I would have used the JBA mid-pipes but they were unable to get them from their supplier in Mexico.
Edit: Forgot to mention, there is plenty of clearance for the oil cooler but these Maximizer headers do have that issue with the steering shaft rubbing.
