Nice. Did you check the ECU's programming? Do you see an SGT RPO option on your sticker? That option is to limit it to under 100 MPH. I guess they don't trust Sgts to drive too fast

What did you use for the programming interface? Tech 2? MDI?

I do have RPO code SGT listed on my SPID sticker. Looking that up for the 2014-2017 it appears to be a speed limiter of 130 MPH. I don't envision driving my Caprice above 130 at this time. :)

I used a MDI device to act as the J2534 programming interface for SPS.

As far as I know, all of the North American Chevy Caprices have the single piston calipers. I don't really have a enough money in my project budget to completely rework the brakes with Brembos.

The stock rotors were shot (not worth machining them for reuse on the car). I've had good luck and performance using the Power Stop drilled/slotted brake rotors on my Chevy SSR pickup. I just wanted to get my Caprice freshened up with new rotors/pads. After replacing the rotors, pads and bleeding/flushing the brake system, the brakes now perform well on this car. They're not like the Brembo brakes I had on my former Chevy SS Sedan, but they work well enough for my needs.

Thats good mate, i have standard rotors on mine with bendix pads....thet stop really well for what i need. The HSV brake upgrade is about 2k here...and eberytime we need rotors and pads theyre worth around $1200...but expensive for my liking

Project Status Update - 5/3/2020

Post by rcg530 »

I have replaced a noisy alternator, installed a locking gas cap that uses my car's blade key and I've replaced the flat metal style engine oil dipstick with a cable style dipstick.

As I mentioned in the video, the part listing won't show the Caprice nor the Chevy SS Sedan. I first heard of the ACDelco GT344 being installed on a 5th gen Camaro back when I had a 2010 Camaro 1SS. The Camaro, 14-17 Caprice and SS Sedan all have a center cut blade keys and they have the same size fuel filler opening. I used the GT344 on both Chevy SS Sedans I owned (2015 and 2017) and had zero problems using that gas cap on those cars.

The ACDelco GT344 can be purchased for around $50 US from places like RockAuto.com. Still not the cheapest locking gas cap, but at least there's only one key for the car (doors, trunk, ignition and now gas cap).

Update Calibration Files - BCM - 2014 Chevy Caprice PPV

Post by rcg530 »

I demonstrate the steps to use the ACDelco TDS website and then use the Service Programming System (SPS) to update the Body Control Module (BCM) calibration files to enable two features in a BCM and I finish up showing how to invoke a BCM special function to relearn some data after the BCM is updated.
