NY getting tough on loud exhausts

Kinda what we did here for sleds but the fines are a joke. I have a modified exhaust in the Caprice and is not that bad (JBA headers SS exhaust) . I chose the exhaust system for the increased performance with a nice and mellow throaty sound. What I do object to is the idiots that just lop off their mufflers or use loud mufflers. That's just noise.

Maybe this will encourage other states to do the same. We have a similar law here but it is loosely enforced or just when there is a complaint. Also used during enforcement blitzes when they can't pin you on anything else. When I'm near cops, I just feather my throttle and my noise level is low.

I had to look up "Hollywood muffler". That's a term older than me!

What are the laws like in other states?

These laws are mostly to go after idiots with the crackle tunes causing the car to backfire which is very similar sounding to gunshots but unfortunately it pertains to any car truck or motorcycle with any non factory exhaust I do not agree with this and they are slowly taking away all freedom to modify gas and diesel vehicles so we just conform and buy a electric cars

I have no idea if NJ has any law about loud exhausts, but IME, if they do I have never seen it enforced. I realize this might be hypocritical considering I modify my exhaust as well, but I can absolutely not STAND those crackle tunes. Each day in the past couple months I've decided to drive my car to and from work, it feels like clockwork that I get at least ONE car that shifts down to send the RPM up to 6k and it sounds like gunfire as they get off the highway or just simply sit next to me as I'm driving; continuously popping and banging. I keep it in 6th and just wonder, well... you do you, man. But damn does it attract attention.

Nice thing about Varex is I just hit the button and the volume drops off a cliff. Love it.
