Federal Signal module

Post by NJCaprice »

Got my 2012 about 2 weeks ago from the Delaware state police and car still has the headlight flasher module in it… looking to make it functional again. I can not for the life of me find a wiring schematic for it. Anybody have a clue? Image

If it is wired correctly, there is a light green wire with a red tracer it the upfitter harness in the passenger side foot well. You just need to apply 12 volts to the wire to activate. I usually use an incandescent test light hooked to 12 volts to test the function before applying full voltage.

NJCaprice,
Can you get a better picture of the module?

Found an old thread about the Federal flasher product FH-- series line. From what this guy said years back, it seems simple, probably the reason there was no schematic published was it was entirely connecterized at the factory as a plug-n-play solution. Here you go.... NOTE - I have no way to verify this info so use at your own risk!!

Green=ground
red=12v+switched 5 amp
white=12+constant 15 amp
black=nightime override (generally not used)
blue=headlamp output
yellow=headlamp output

if no white then red is still switched but is 15 amp
if no green then black is ground

Thanks
Eric

Hey Eric, assuming wires spoken of would be in the upfitter harness in the kick panel? I am terrible at electrical work lol

No, that's the translation for the functioning of wires itself on the flasher module. That unit was designed for a complete plug and play for the Caprice directly at the flasher module junction, so you'd have to buy the connectors (pins, plastic bodies), re-create the connections, then plug the flasher module into the car's flasher junction harness. If you wanted to do it correctly. Don't know if I'd try splicing directly into the car wiring or not if your plugs are gone....

There was a few varities of the flasher module out there, the one from Sound Off was the one I think Kerr used. Pretty sure we had a few threads on those in this subforum in the past.

Thanks & good luck!

NJCaprice,
Go to our Files section and look for 2012 GM Municiple Vehicles Technical Manual. Pages 31 and 34 discuss the 6J7 Headlight flasher option. The flasher units designed for the Caprice have a wire circuit that activates the rear taillight flashing (alternating brake and reverse lights) via the BCM. DO NOT apply 12V to this circuit. It will take out the BCM. I have searched my files and can't find the schematic for the Federal Signal flasher.
