Electrical issue wth the receiver/HVAC controls

Post by dredpyrt »

My issue: The center stack in including the radio will power up, which will last about 20 seconds and shutoff for about 10 seconds and repeat the process. I originally thought it was just the screen on the receiver but now its the whole center stack which means no heat or defrost either. Any ideas? Thanks!

Two different series radios & display units, 11-13 was Holden iQ and 14-17 was the Panasonic radio made for GM in a few different iterations of cars, Caprice, Malibu, Camaro, SS, etc......

So which radio do you have? :)

EDIT - The control stacks are 100% different between the two breakpoints as well. Should have just asked what year car it is... Sorry to be less then clear!

Thanks
Eric

Well, you can always try a total power off via disconnecting both batteries (if equipped with an aux battery), wait a few minutes then power back up to see if it clears your problem. I'd normally say pull the radio fuse in the rear electrical center, wait a few minutes and then reinitialize (if it was just a radio problem), but if it's a module that's glitchy (evidenced by the HVAC controls cycling with the radio) the radio fuse might not cure it. Needless to say a power-off to the car won't hurt anything, at the most you might have to let the car relearn driving behaviors over a number of key cycles.

I'm assuming you've already scanned the car with an advanced scanner that can read the GM trouble codes and that no codes are showing. If not that would probably be a good first try. Steve, chime in here because I'm probably missing a step or three along the path.

Thanks
