Longevity has been poor but could be result of having opened and closed while under throttle. Going forward, I'll only actuate while engine is off or idleing.

This looks like the same layout I had on my 2000 Trans-Am LS1 M6 car. The brand was QTP and I had 0 failures in the 40k miles I had the car.
The cutout is really the way to go. My TA had Kooks headers into the cutouts, then to Magnaflow mufflers. It sounded basically stock but with the cutouts open, it roared like open headers.

I think I've installed Cut-outs and damn near every vehicle I've owned. I went with the Oval Cut-outs from Granatelli lately, due to their great customer service. Depending how big of a cam you got, but you will get some leakage. But if you exercise them regularly and keep the shafts lubed they'll last longer, and I only operate them at low RPMs and not under a load. It was a tight fit and I added some extra heat Shields to protect the electric motors from those pup Cats right next to them. My ppv is lowered and only about 3-1/2" of clearance to the ground , so at a latter date I installed some 1" Sq. Tubing to the bottom of my frame rails to keep those pesky speed bumps at the trailer park from scrapping on the turn down tips.
I'll try to post a sound clip video and some pictures of my crappy TIG welding techniques. lol
